Lemons Into Lemonade
“The marathon can humble you,” is one of Bill Rodger’s most quoted lines. Despite winning four Boston Marathons, he had races that did not go to plan. In 1977, on a hot day, he dropped out on top of Heartbreak Hill. Not one to sulk, he went directly to the bar at the Eliot Lounge, where bartender Tommy Leonard offered him a cold beer and a rugby shirt to pull over his sweat-soaked singlet. Inspired by that moment, and captured in the 1977 documentary, Distance Running, our rugby is designed for donning after workouts both good and bad. Bill went on to win the Boston Marathon the following year, in cooler weather.

An Eye for Detail
From the two underarm eyelets to the sturdy stitch that finishes the placket, every detail is selected with purpose. A double-layered collar and taping along the entire neck seams completes the design with a durable finish.
Fit for All
The Cotton Rugby is designed for a comfortable and oversized look, but if a slim fit is desired, we would recommend purchasing one size down for an easy fit and two sizes down for a slimmer fit.
Earn Your Stripes
Our rugby features traditional stripes and is made from 100% cotton with ribbed cuffs and a double-layered twill collar. The two-button placket includes soft rubberized buttons and is finished with a box stitch to reinstate the shape and comfort of this feature. We also added embroidered grommets under the arms, not only for ventilation, but to solidify the nod to a classic rugby fit.

This easy-fitting rugby is co-ed with an oversized cut. For a slouchy, longer fit, we recommend that women select their usual Tracksmith size. For a more fitted look, we suggest women go down one size from their usual Tracksmith size (i.e. going from a Women’s Large to a Medium Cotton Rugby).
